MICITT Costa Rica “Hack” Not Related To “Ransomware” Global Event

Q COSTA RICA – Although the Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología y Telecomunicaciones (Micitt) – Ministry of Science, Technology and Telecommunications – says it was the target of a “hack” , it was clear that it was not related to the global event known as “Ransomware” that affected some 150 countries around the world.

Micitt minister, Marcelo Jenkins, explained that the attack (hackeo in Spanish) on its website was due to the fact that the version of the content manager being used had not been updated.

“(…)This attack is unrelated to the worldwide Ransomware attack, but to a content administrator module that did not have an up-to-date security patch,” said the Jenkins.

The official added that throughout the night of Friday a team experts worked on revising the website’s source code and “cleaning it”.
