In 2016 Central American countries imported US$27 million worth of washing machines and parts from China, 14% more than in 2015.
Cheap cars, cheap appliances, cheap sneakers – China is famous for them.
Variation of regional imports
Between 2015 and 2016, the total value of imports of washing machines and their parts into Central America remained unchanged: imports totaled US$132 million each year.
However, the value imported from China increased by 14%, going from US$24 million in 2015 to US$29 million in 2016.
Imports by country
In 2016, the main importer of washing machines and their parts in Central America was Costa Rica with US$43 million, followed by Panama with $29 million, Guatemala with US$27 million, Honduras with US$14 million, Nicaragua with US$11 million and El Salvador with US$10 million.
