Costa Rica News – Costa Rica’s Juan Santamaría airport runway is under construction, bringing an end to the tradition of watching planes take off at sunset, which has long been seen as unsafe anyway.
By the beginning of next year the extension will be completed. Externally, the runway and safety zone will be extended and a taxiway big enough for two large planes will be created.
These changes will make it safer for a plane that has to suspend its takeoff at the last minute. They will also allow large planes to be prepared out of the way so smaller ones can take off.
