Tax Reform in Costa Rica? Good or Bad?

Costa Rica News – The National Restoration Party proposes a number of changes to the value added tax plan. Mainly, it proposed three ways the Treasury can avoid charging VAT on the most basic products, those that make up the “canasta basica.”
Another big deal is that the party hopes the Treasury will not charge VAT on purchases made online or from abroad via credit and debit cards.
This includes goods and services such as Netflix.
These are among the 157 motions being reviewed from the PRN. Some of the other ideas include lowering the tax on tourist services, increasing income tax, and not taxing certain childcare, education and medical expenses.
