5 Millionth Tico Born in Costa Rica

Costa Rica News – Eithan Jesús Brenes Alvarado, the first son of Heredian farmers Madeline Alvarado Calvo and Reinier Brenes Calvo, was born at 9:27 pm yesterday. He is one of the babies in the running for title of 5 millionth Tico.
The birth of the 5 million inhabitant was expected in March, at first, but the estimate changed to September 1st due to a substantial drop in the number of births. In 2017, the number of births fell, for the first time since 1980.
The 5 millionth tico was expected to be born at 9:27 pm on the 1st or after. This calculation was based on expected numbers of births and deaths and did not consider migration as that is a process rather than a set date
